TV & Video Preset
This configuration allows the calibration of a video display or
projector to desired video response such as BT.709, by using a set
of Video RGB test patches (for instance, from a Video Calibration
DVD or signal generator). The RGB Readout converts the RGB target
values to a measurement target, while the RGB Adjust Readout
indicates how to adjust the display for each test patch, with the ΔE Readout indicating how close to
the target the test patch is.
- Either measure display white and save to the White Reference
to set the display target brightness (Y) level, or set it
manually by double tapping the White Readout and setting Y to
the desired brightness, and both the x and y values to 0.3. If
not measured, you will probably want to adjust the display white
response first. You can measure the White & Black using the
TPG by setting the Reference RGB
Readout. Note that you will get a warning message when setting
the Readout value before White and Black are set, but this
should be ignored during the steps of measuring them.
- Measure black level and save to the Black reference to
establish the correct BT.1886 response curve.
- The third Readout holds the test patch RGB value and computes
the target reference value. The details of the display response
are set in this Readout. By default the preset has BT.709 +
BT.1886, full range RGB 0-100% values, but all these details can
be varied to match the way your test patch values are
represented. See the RGB Readout
Configuration Dialog. Enter the current test patch color
into RGB Readout using double tap. If the TPG is configured and enabled, then the values
entered will automatically be sent to the display.
- Yxy Reference Readout will show CIE equivalent of the target
of RGB value
- Yxy Measurement readout will show the current measured value.
- Measure the test patch, and adjust the display RGB controls in
direction indicated by RGB Adjustment Readout, in order to
minimize Δ value
shown in the Readout. The last Readout (ΔE 2K) shows a similar value, but in terms of
the more perceptually accurate Delta E CIE2000 value. If you
are just wishing to adjust the chromaticity and not luminance
of a test value, then reconfigure the RGB/CMY Adjustment readout and
select "Chromaticity"
instead of "Full Adjust" since it will show
directions that do not try and change the luminance.
- The Measure button for this preset is configured by
default to be the normal single shot mode, but for adjusting a
display it may be more convenient at times to switch to Start/Stop
mode by long pressing the Measure button. The "Fast,
non-adaptive emission measurement" mode may also be useful at
times. See the Measurement
Action Dialog.
